Marin County is continuing its efforts to move deeper into Phase 2 of reopening under its shelter-in-place order. Indoor retail sales were allowed to proceed as of June 12 under the newest Marin County Public Health guidelines. The reopening of indoor retail follows the June 5 green light for outdoor ceremonies, charter boats, dog parks, swimming pools, and an array of outdoor recreational businesses.

Real estate in Marin is tremendously active right now at every price point, with so many looking to escape the confines of the city. By the end of June, 2020 sales will have surpassed 2019 sales year-to-date. This is especially remarkable, given that activity was essentially frozen during the first months of sheltering-in-place. A recent article in Bloomberg elaborated:
"Across the San Francisco Bay area -- home to some of America’s earliest and strictest shelter-in-place rules -- demand for real estate is soaring in outer suburbs and wealthy havens known for their gorgeous landscapes. From affluent Marin County to Napa wine country and south to Monterey’s Carmel Valley, brokers say the coronavirus outbreak is leading to a surge of interest from homebuyers looking to spread out."
"Like New York, where Manhattanites fleeing the city have fueled newfound interest in tony suburbs, San Francisco is flush with people with the means to upgrade to more spacious areas. The tech companies that drive the region’s economy are also signaling a long-term acceptance of remote work, raising the prospect that there’s little need to live close to offices."
Marin offers the best of all worlds -- vast expanses of green space and waterfront, lovely neighborhoods with charming village centers and award-winning schools, and an easy and picturesque commute to San Francisco by ferry or the Golden Gate Bridge. It's no wonder so many are flocking here right now.
